About the PTR GIR – 7.62X51MM – RIFLE
The PTR GIR – 7.62×51mm Rifle is a full-length, semi-automatic rifle engineered to blend classic roller-delayed performance with modern optic compatibility. Built around PTR’s proven roller-delayed blowback operating system, the GIR delivers smooth recoil characteristics and reliable cycling across a wide range of conditions. The semi-automatic action is host-ready for use with NFA-registered auto sear packs where legally applicable.
The rifle is centered around an 18″ stress-relieved, tapered contour barrel with a 1:10″ right-hand twist. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, supporting suppressors and common muzzle devices. A welded 7.5″ steel Picatinny rail is integrated directly onto the receiver, allowing direct mounting of modern optics without the need for costly high-offset scope adapters. The overall Parkerized finish provides corrosion resistance while reinforcing the rifle’s classic military appearance.
The PTR GIR features a slim-line polymer handguard and surplus-style green furniture paired with a black receiver. Surplus components, including the stock set and metal lower trigger pack, are military surplus rated NRA Good and may display cosmetic wear such as scratches, finish variation, or handling marks. Magazines included are original surplus aluminum magazines rated Good or better, adding authentic service character to each rifle.
Measuring approximately 40.5″ in overall length and weighing 9.5 lbs unloaded, the PTR GIR balances full-length rifle handling with manageable weight. The trigger pull is set between 9–10 lbs for consistent operation. Each rifle ships in a cardboard case and includes one magazine and a cable lock. The PTR GIR is available in standard, California-compliant, and Vermont-compliant configurations.
Within the PTR lineup, the GIR occupies the modernized classic .308 rifle segment, offering roller-delayed reliability, full-length barrel performance, and integrated optics support while preserving the traditional military styling and surplus character that define the platform.
